About Bali Catamarans
A Catana Group Brand
Conceived by Olivier Poncin and his design team in 2014, Bali Catamarans is the leisure catamaran brand of Catana Group, which was established in 1984 and have been producing the worlds highest quality performance catamarans. Bali Catamarans, which are produced in the same shipyards as the Catana brand, with Catana Group's over 40 years of expertise and technology, has its own unique DNA. Bali's vision is to create large, open living areas on water, and allowing easier communication and access between these spaces. Bali's aim for performance and seaworthiness without compromising from maximum living space and comfort.
Innovative Design, Light Production
Bali Catamarans, are manufactured in Catana Groups' shipyards in France and Tunisia. Although standard catamaran brands use balsa as their main component, Bali's use closed cell foam panels in its production. Although this is a more expensive product, it is much lighter then balsa. Also, since it does not absorb water in case of gelcoat damages, it maintains the weight of the boat not allowing the boat to get heavier over time with absorbed water.
In standard catamarans, the tramboline on the front deck is preferred to keep the bow of the boat lighter to decrease pitching. This tramboline takes up a big living space on the aft and makes this space unfunctional. It takes spray during sailing and exposes the deck to constant sea water. Since the closed cell foam panels are lighter, there is no need to use a tramboline in the bow of Bali's. The front cokpit is made up of a rigid platform creating a large living space.
Groundbreaking 'Garage Door'
Another differentiator of Bali Catamarans is the garage door that allows the saloon and kitchen area to be used as both an outdoor and an indoor space. In standard catamarans there is a small saloon and dining area inside the boat, as well as another one on the aft cockpit. Depending on the season, one of these areas always remain unused. This design divides the limited space that boats offer. In Bali's, rather then two smaller areas, there is one large area, which can be used either as an outdoor space or an indoor space thanks to the garage door innovation. Once you open the garage door, the door remains parallel to the ceiling and once the side lateral windows open, the saloon area becomes an outdoor space. When you close the garage door, everything other then the aft bank remains inside.
High Performance, High Comfort
Bali prizes comfort as well as performance. Since Bali's come from the same shipyard as Catana's, they are very seaworthy boats. Because of its narrower hull design under the waterline, friction is minimized to enhance performance. The hull widens above the waterline creating larger cabins while allowing for a form that decreses spray. This creates an advantage for Bali once you are sailing against the wind and the waves. The mast is moved backwards to centralize the center of gravity of the boat. This lessens the pitching movement of the boat in rough seas. Allowing for a bigger self tacking genoa space, which in turn increases sailing performance.
